Wasim Jaffer and Shaun Tait are competing for the position of head coach of the Punjab senior team for the upcoming domestic season. Both of them are in the running for the position.

With regard to the position of head coach for the Punjab senior team, we have received more than forty-five applications. Wasim Jaffer, a former opener for India, and Shaun Tait, a former speedster for Australia, are two of the most notable names in this field. An official from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) provided The Aazka News with the following statement: “The process is still underway, and we will announce the name by the following week.”

Aavishkar Salvi, who assumed control of the ship in August 2022, will be replaced by the one who was chosen from Jaffer and Tait. During the 2022–23 season, Punjab had advanced to the knockout stage of all three of their domestic championships, while Salvi, a former seamer for India, was in charge of the team. Not only did they make it to the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy, but they also made it to the last four of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the Ranji Trophy.

In the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Punjab overcame Baroda, bringing an end to a trophy drought that had lasted for thirty years. This victory brought Punjab to the brink of winning the trophy. In 1992–1993, Punjab won the Ranji Trophy, which was their previous domestic championship.

Is Jaffer going to take over for his buddy in Mumbai? After he retired in March of 2020, Jaffer, who holds the record for most runs scored in the Ranji Trophy, had previously served as a coach for the teams of Uttarakhand and Odisha. Wasim Jaffer had previously held the position of main coach for the teams of Uttarakhand and Odisha, in addition to serving as the coach of the Bangladesh Under-19 squad.

Unsavory claims of sectarian bias, which Jaffer passionately disputed, had brought an abrupt stop to his tenure in Uttarakhand. Jaffer’s tenure had come to a sudden end. Former colleagues, such as Anil Kumble, had come to his defense under certain circumstances.
