NEET UG 2024 exam: Controversy

Medical students around the country have taken to social media to voice their outrage and accuse authorities of wrongdoing. A few test takers have called for a retake of the NEET UG 2024 and the results to be vacated. Since the grading scheme is based on a +4 -1 system, some are wondering how pupils managed to earn 718 and 719 scores on the exam.

Experts predict that getting into medical school this year will be more challenging due to the mark inflation in the NEET UG 2024 results.

“Mathematically impossible scores in NEET 2024,” remarked one Reddit user.

A hopeful posted on X (Twitter) that there is cause for concern because 67 students got 720 out of 720 on the NEET exam that was leaked. A lot of students are furious about this because it’s affecting the chances of thousands of candidates across the nation. A high-level probe ought to be carried out by the government.

“NTA issued grace marks according to the court ruling, however the students believe this abrupt judgment is unreasonable as the agency has not indicated any methodology to give these ‘grace marks’,” another X user, Nitish Rajput, said.

In an effort to have the findings re-evaluated, several students have taken to internet forums to lodge complaints.

The demands for openness in the procedure have only intensified. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is in the middle of a storm of controversy as thousands of students call for a re-test, point out the problems with the NTA’s explanations, and have even asked the Supreme Court to step in. There are questions about justice about the grace marks awarded for missed exam time, he continued.

“Rank toh marks ki vajah se gandi hai but reneet ko survive karna mentally toh bohot mushkil hai,” another student wrote in Hindi. The analysis of salt and 2-3 minutes of light are not going to be enough. Although the results are disappointing, it will be extremely challenging to retake the NEET 2024 exam. No way am I going to re-examine after going through all that trouble for two or three months the first time.

Aspiring candidates and Physics Wallah’s Alakh Alakh Pandey both had concerns over the findings. See the movie.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a prominent Congresswoman, has called for an investigation into allegations of cheating in the National Entrance Examination for Medical Professions (NEET). Concerned by the concerns from students, Gandhi demanded a probe into the alleged irregularities.

It all started with the leak of the NEET exam paper, and now students are claiming that the results are also the product of a hoax. Six pupils from the same tutoring centre have gotten 720 out of 720 marks, which has led to serious suspicions and several irregularities being revealed. However, following the announcement of the results, numerous children reportedly committed suicide across the nation. On the Hindi-language microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter), Gandhi Vadra expressed his amazement and sadness over the news.

NEET UG 2024: NTA clarification

Although the NTA denied any exam irregularities, they did state that students’ improved scores were due, in part, to revisions made to the NCERT textbooks and, in part, to grace marks for students who were tardy at the testing centers.

In order to compensate for the time lost by NEET (UG) 2024 candidates, the NTA announced that the Supreme Court had established a normalisation formula in its judgment dated 13.06.2018.

The time that these applicants lost throughout the exam was calculated, and they were given grace marks as a compensation. Their marks can also be 718 or 719, it said.

According to an NTA official who spoke with PTI, the organization had to give all students who chose one of the two options five marks because they received a representation over the matter. As a result, 44 students’ grades went up from 715 to 720, leading to a higher number of top scorers.

According to the NTA, 1,563 candidates received time compensation, and their revised marks range from 20 to 720. Two of the candidates in this group also received compensating marks, bringing their total scores to 718 and 719, respectively.
