MS Dhoni should play one more season to enable Ruturaj Gaikwad improve as a captain: Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, a former batsman for India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), believes that MS Dhoni should continue playing for one more season in order to assist Ruturaj Gaikwad in developing his leadership skills.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team managed to sneak into the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs by defeating the reigning champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), by a score of 27 runs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the standard-bearer for Chennai Super Kings, was dismissed in the final over for a score of 25 off of 13, and there are widespread speculations that this may have been his final performance. On the other hand, his former teammate Suresh Raina is not in agreement with this, and he believes that CSK and its new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad would require MS Dhoni for one more season. During an interview on Jio Cinema, Raina stated that “Ruturaj Gaikwad needs more time to mature,” which means that MS Dhoni should play one more season.

According to the captain of CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the fact that they were unable to acquire crucial players was a significant factor in their fifth-place finish in the standings. “If I’m being completely honest, I believe that it was a terrific wicket. It was spinning and clinging a little bit, but I believe that 200 on this ground was completely attainable. During the Twenty20 match, we continued to lose wickets at regular intervals; it was just a matter of one or two hits, which is something that can happen on occasion,” he explained.

To summarize the season, I am fairly pleased with the fact that I have seven victories out of a total of fourteen games. I am pretty content with what the aim was. Simply was unable to cross the finish line in either of the last two balls.

“With the kind of injuries we had, missing out on two frontline bowlers, and not having (Devon) Conway at the top of the order as well, I believe that missing out on three key players made a huge difference,” said the coach.

Gaikwad is quoted as saying, “There were many challenges for us right throughout the first game.” This statement was made in reference to the string of injuries that the squad had. Initially, Fizz (Mustafiur Rahman) sustained an injury, and then Pathirana (Matheesha) also had an injury. Pathirana returned to action, but he was unable to participate again. As a result of the presence of injuries, it is necessary to achieve a state of equilibrium within the squad and select it (the team) for each and every game.

Taking into account the injuries and illnesses that were experienced by the players, I believe that this season is a good example of how we were forced to make adjustments to our starting eleven at various points. Although I am pleased with the seven victories, I was unable to cross the finish line. I’m content with it.

“We got ten runs from the last two balls in our last knockout game last year, so this was a similar situation,” he continued. “However, things did not go our way (this season),” he said.

How are the RCB qualified?
In order to qualify for the playoffs, Chennai needed only 201 runs to win the match, but they needed 219 runs to win the match outright. However, they fell short by 10 runs because left-arm bowler Yash Dayal kept his composure when bowling the final over. The Bengaluru squad managed to achieve a higher net run rate than three other teams that had the same win-loss record of 7-7.
