BJP ally TDP likely to demand special status for Andhra Pradesh, Cabinet berths

As discussions begin to take place regarding the formation of a coalition government led by the BJP at the Centre, the Telugu Desam Party will make a number of key demands. These include a Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh, Cabinet berths that include his son in the new government, and funds for the capital city of Amaravati, which he had initially planned.

With N Chandrababu Naidu at the helm, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) delivered an outstanding showing in Andhra Pradesh. The party was successful in securing 16 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats it contested and 135 of the total 175 seats in the Assembly elections. The TDP, which had a pre-poll alliance with the saffron party, is the second-largest constituent of the NDA, giving it a strong bargaining position. This is because the BJP has failed to reach the halfway point at the center of the government.

Naidu, on Wednesday, denied rumors that he could transfer to the INDIA group and reaffirmed that he is still a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). While Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presiding over the NDA meeting that took place in the evening, he was present.According to sources, the leader of the TDP is likely to make a request for Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra, which is the same issue that caused him to leave the National Democratic Alliance in 2018. In the form of grants (which do not carry any interest) and industrial incentives such as tax exemptions, duty waivers, and GST reductions, the SCS will make certain that the state receives the majority of the money that are provided by the Government of the Central Government.

It is also expected that the leader of the TDP would make a request for additional funding from the central government in order to restart the development of Amaravati as the capital of the state. This project was put on hold after Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress (YSRCP) came to power in 2019. As the civic infrastructure continues to deteriorate, a number of buildings and apartment complexes that were constructed during Naidu’s administration between the years 2014 and 2019 are currently unoccupied.

Naidu, who will take the oath of office as Andhra Chief Minister on June 9, has the intention of initiating capital city development. Tenali Sravan Kumar, the Member of Legislative Assembly for Tatikonda, has stated that he will make a vision plan for Amaravati available within one hundred days of his coming to office.

Another demand that Naidu is anticipated to make is for funds to be allocated for the completion of the Polavaram project, which has been waiting for a very long time. According to the leaders of the TDP, Naidu had made this pledge during his campaigning in the run-up to the elections.
