Amitabh Bachchan was at his all-time low when he agreed to host the first season of KBC in 2000. KBC is based on the British show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. The stupendous success of the first season brought Amitabh Bachchan back in each household and also helped reinvigorate his career in movies. That very year, he appeared in Aditya Chopra’s blockbuster romantic drama Mohabbatein.
Amitabh returned for the second season but had to step down during the course of the season due to health reasons. Shah Rukh Khan, co-star of Amitabh in Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, took over as the host in the 3rd season. Amitabh, on popular demand, returned to his hosting position in the 4th season. Since then, he has hosted every season of the popular quiz show, right down to the 16th, which went on air this week.
On the film front, Amitabh has the upcoming court drama Section 84, directed by Ribhudas Gupta, and the action-drama Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, through which he will be making his Tamil debut alongside superstar Rajinikanth.
